Today it’s about 1000 members in 100 countries. IPRA was formally established in London on May 1 1955 by PR-professionals from some countries.
The main goal of IPRA – organizing PR-professionals into a transnational society with the objective of raising standards of public relations practice in the various countries and improving the quality and efficiency of practitioners.
Also one of the major objectives in the founding IPRA is promotion of higher standards and ethical conduct in the practice of public relations. This commitment led subsequently to the adoption of IPRA Codes of standards of professional ethics and behavior in the field of public relations to be adhered to by all members of the Association worldwide.
Today IPRA constitutes the most genuinely international grouping of PR-practitioners worldwide, active not only in promoting exchange of information and co-operate in every sector of the profession, but also is building a program of professional development opportunities and other initiatives aimed at enhancing the role of public relations in management and international affairs. Today the International Public Relation Association (IPRA) has representations in different international organizations – the United Nations, UNESCO, ASEAN. IPRA President in 2008 is Robert Grupp.
